A new font engine is under development in PC/Geos Ensemble. This is done for two reasons, first it is to make the font handling easier and modern, and secondly, to make it open source, as the present font engine, NimbusQ is copyrighted and closed source.

We have decided that the best way to implement a new font engine is to make it a TrueType font engine (TTF), this will make the font handling a lot simpler and modern, compared to the NimbusQ font engine.

The new font engine is implemented in the pre-release in the download links below and can be tested right away. We look forward to test results, both negative and positive, by a comment to this article, or join us at Discord, see link to Discord in the menu.

It is important to note that the driver is still being worked on regarding performance and output quality. Keep in mind that it is a pre-release and note that the pre-release is a zipped package without an installer, and when unzipping the package a full fledge Ensemble folder will be present.
